Victorian era antique red wool paisley shawl dates from the 1860s.
It is made of jacquard hand loomed woven wool done in strong vivid
vibrant colors of red, brown, blue, green, gold, white, and black.
These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia, India, Russia,
USA and Europe, in France at Paris and Lyon, Austria in Vienna,
in England at Norwich and in Scotland at Edinburgh, Glasgow and
Paisley itself. This stunning shawl has exquisite workmanship, and
detail with a colorful fringed decorative border on the two ends,
and a red star wool center. These paisley shawls were very popular
during the mid to late 1800s with at least one being included in
every better class trousseau. In Scotland they were known as 'kirking'
(church) shawls when they were worn to church on the first Sunday
after the wedding and then used again at christenings. This sensational
square shawl measures 72 by 72 inches. It is in excellent clean
useable condition, with only a few tiny pin holes which are difficult
