Japanese Tomesode Peacock Silk Screen 5 Mon Kimono.

Japanese Tomesode Peacock Silk Screen 5 Mon Kimono Front view.

This antique Japanese tomesode peacock silk screen 5 mon kimono dates from the 1930s. It is made of a black silk crepe fabric, with red silk lining and a pastel silk screen floral peacock design done along the bottom, with hand embroidered, french knots accenting the flowers. The peacock represents beauty, dignity and immortality. There are 5 mon family crest white medallions decorating the front and back sleeves (see close-up photo). This fabulous formal tomesode ladies kimono robe was probably worn for a wedding ceremony. It is all hand stitched, with a rolled bottom hem and is fully lined. The kimono measures 62 inches long, with 25 inch long swinging sleeves and is 52 inches across the shoulders. It is in excellent clean wearable condition. This is a wonderful piece of wearable Japanese textile art.
