Edwardian Pink Silk Embroidered Chrysanthemum Coat Robe. |
This Edwardian era antique pink silk embroidered chrysanthemum coat robe dates from 1915. It is made of a pale pastel pink fine tissue silk fabric, with silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidered spider chrysanthemum flowers with yellow french knot stamen centers. There is an off white cream color silk soutache braided trim edging the entire coat, with tiny french knot accents. It has wonderful workmanship. This lovely long Chinese inspired robe style surcoat has a front opening with round carved brass buttons and silk loop toggle closures and wide full sleeves. It is fully lined in silk, with cotton flannel batting inside and a "Vantine's Fifth Avenue New York" store label. The coat measures 52 inches long, with 48 inch hips, waist, bust and 26 inch wide sleeve cuffs. It is in good wearable condition, with only a small faint age spot on the front top and bottom back and a loose thread stitched trim on the front (see close-up). The silk lining is frayed along the inside neckline. This is a wonderful piece of wearable Oriental textile art.
