Early White Silk Ribbon Lacing Ladies Straight Sole Shoes Front view.

This pair of antique early white silk ribbon lacing ladies straight sole shoes date from the 1830s. They are all hand stitched and made of an off white ivory color silk fabric. These French ladies ballet slipper style flat shoes have ribbon laces, silk ribbon bow trim on the front vamps, squared toes, straight leather bottom soles with no left or right distinction and are lined in linen. The shoes measure 9 inches long and 2 1/4 inches wide. These delicate silk slippers were reserved for indoor wear, evening dress or special occasions and this pair were probably someone's wedding shoes. They have been gently worn, with a repaired mend on the left side of each shoe and the silk ribbon lace ties have been replaced on one shoe. These are a rare and early find which are a deaccession from the Montclair Art Museum.
