This antique Victorian era black violet mourning bonnet dates from the 1880s. It is made of black silk, straw, lace and velvet covering a small hat frame. There are small purple silk violet flowers decorating the hat. Violets were often used as symbols of mourning. The bonnet is fully lined in black silk. There are black silk velvet ribbon ties for securing under the chin. It measures 7 inches wide and 5 inches tall. This petite diminutive oval shaped mourning bonnet is in excellent condition and could be worn or used for display on an antique doll.
