Victorian Civil War Era Gray Silk Spoon Bonnet

This antique Victorian Civil War era gray silk spoon bonnet dates from the 1860s. It is made of an iridescent steel gray silk fabric on a tall wired frame. The fabric has many tiny gathers and pleating with a silk bow trim on the top. There are black silk ribbon ties for securing under the chin with curving sides and a curtain, cape, flounced fabric drape back trimmed with black chantilly lace. Inside the front brim is lined in white silk and muslin, tulle in the back. This beautiful bonnet measures 29 inches in circumference around the outside of the face. It is in good clean wearable condition with only some slight damage to the front wire brim with a small break in the wire and silk. There is a one inch split on the right side silk and several small splits on the inside silk lining.
