This Victorian era brown straw and silk plate hat dates from 1890. It is made of a small round wired frame covered with a brown straw tightly woven horse hair, and pleated sheer brown silk chiffon woven through underneath the brim. There is a small crown trimmed with orange striped silk ribbon, and bright orange feathers. This unique flat round shaped plate style hat has a small crown, and would have been secured to the back of a Gibson Girl style hairdo with a hat pin. The hat measures 35 inches in circumference outside. It is in excellent clean wearable condition.
