Victorian era lilac straw and silk plate hat dates from 1890. It
is made of a round wired frame covered with a lilac purple straw
tightly woven horse hair, and pleated sheer lilac silk chiffon ruffles.
This unique flat round shaped plate style hat has an upturned front
brim, a small inside crown lined in lilac silk which would have
been secured to the back of a Gibson Girl style hairdo with a hat
pin. The hat measures 14 inches long and 11 inches wide. It is in
excellent wearable condition with only some slight soiling and fade.
