Black Chantilly Lace Confections Cap Headdress. |
This
antique Victorian Civil War era black chantilly lace confections
cap headdress dates from the 1860s. It is made of a fine sheer black
net chantilly lace, with a decorative floral and swiss dot point
d'esprit design outlined in black threads with shading and a scalloped
border edging. There are lace confections trim layers and purple
silk ribbon bow trim sewn onto heavy net straps inside to give the
cap shape and stability. This lovely lace day cap is also referred
to as a breakfast cap to be worn indoors at breakfast and this cap
was probably worn during the mourning period due to the colors.
The headdress cap measures 18 inches around the face opening. It
is in excellent condition, with only one ribbon tie missing from
