Pair of French Moroccan Tapestries

This pair of antique French tapestries dates from the 1920s. They are made of heavy woven threads done in muted colors with "Made in France" stamped on the back. The two tapestries come as a pair and the picture comes together and meets at the stairway scene creating a large dramatic wall hanging. They have a Moroccan look to them with harem girls and Moorish architecture. The first scene is of an older man offering a young woman to the head of the house perhaps for marriage and to join his harem. The second scene appears to be the head wife coming home by boat with her servants. Often the subject matter of tapestries was taken from famous paintings. They are beautifully made and still quite colorful. The photos do not do them justice. Each tapestry measures 58 by 43 inches. They are in wonderful condition with only a few faint age spots near the top of one tapestry. These would make a great display hung side by side on a wall. This is truly a work of textile art.
