Magnificent Needlepoint & Petitpoint Picture

This magnificent needlepoint and petitpoint picture was made in 1851. The workmanship on this piece is outstanding. The entire picture is done in needlepoint, petitpoint and french knots. The scene appears to show Christopher Columbus telling Queen Isabela about the new world in 1490. On the back is written the provenance of who made this wonderful piece of art. It reads "Mary-Helen (Ward) Olsen from Kenneth E. Ward Made by John G. Ward at age 12 in 1851". It has been framed in a large wooden gold leaf frame and is under glass. The frame measures 34 1/2 by 28 inches and the actual needlepoint piece measures 29 by 23 1/2 inches. It is in excellent condition with bright vivid colors and absolutely wonderful workmanship. The frame backing looks like it has been taken apart and taped back together.
