Victorian Beaded Fireplace Screen Cover Front view.

This antique Victorian era beaded fireplace screen cover dates from the 1870s. It is made of a lilac purple needlepoint embroidered background with white, crystal, pearl and gold steel cut beading. The beading is done in a raised floral leaf design with beaded loop fringe hanging from the bottom. There is lilac purple and white silk rope trim edging the piece with four matching silk tassels. This antique fireplace screen cover has a white silk backing with brass loops sewn along the top to attach to a wooden base which would have sat in front of a fireplace. It measures 16 inches long and 15 1/2 inches wide. The screen cover is in good useable condition with only some missing beads from the bottom fringe and a few splits on the silk backing. This is truly a rare beautiful piece of antique textile folk art.
