Hand
Loomed Jacquard Coverlet. |

| This
antique hand loomed jacquard coverlet dates from 1858. It is made
of a five color hand loomed wool done in natural dyes of blue, red,
pink, tan and cream. There is grape vine and pine cone design with
a wide scrolling floral border. Woven along the bottom border is
the weavers town, county, state, and date of weaving which reads
as "Franklin Township Richland County State Of Ohio 1858".
The coverlet has fringe on the bottom only with finished seamed
edges along the other three sides. These professionally woven Jacquard
Coverlets are distinguished by bold colors, tight weave, double-facing,
pictorial centerfield designs; in that the weaving on the back is
the precise decorative reverse of that on the front. The coverlet
measures 85 inches wide and 77 inches long and is full size without
a middle seam. It is in good useable condition with only some minor
wear with a few moth nips, but no holes. This is truly a superb
piece of early American antique textile folk art. $400 |
