Antique Beaded Hand Screen Fixed Leaf Fan Front view.

This pair of antique beaded hand screen fixed leaf fans date from the early nineteenth century, around 1830. They are made of a lavender wool needlepoint background with beautiful hand done bead work, are backed in linen, and are all hand stitched. There is a floral beaded design done on both fans. They have a turned wood painted gold handle. This style of fan is called a "screen fan" or "fixed leaf fan". They were often used while sitting by the fire to keep the heat off ones face. These matching circular fans measure 17 1/2 inches tall and are 27 inches in circumference. They are in good condition with some wear to the gold painted handles and there are a few missing stitches in the needlepoint work. This pair of unique early fans are a rare find and a great piece of early textile art.
