This antique Chinese embroidered deer and crab coin purse is made of a blue cotton fabric with tiny hand embroidered colorful stitched designs. There is a crab and deer embroidered onto the front. The deer symbolizes riches, and the crab signifies prosperity and status. There is a sturdy linen backing, with decorative black and white stitching surrounding it. This decorative small pouch style coin purse has flap closure, and is lined in a blue linen fabric. There is a fold over fabric looped top which would have been worn and attached to the waist with a belt sash. These bags were meant to hold small things such as coins or seals since there were no pockets on the clothing. The purse measures 5 1/2 by 3 1/3 inches.
