Ottoman
Turkish Tugra Embroidered Purse. |

| This
antique Ottoman period Turkish tugra embroidered purse dates from
1918. It is all hand embroidered with tambour chain stitch crewel
needlework done in colored gold metallic threads on a linen fabric
background. There is gold metallic embroidered trim outlining the
purse with the sultans tugra in the center, and crescent moons,
and stars. The tugra is of Mehmed VI who was the 36th and last sultan
of the Ottoman empire from 1918 to 1922. These two matching appliqués
would have been sewn together to form a drawstring reticule style
pouch purse. It measures 7 1/2 inches long, and 5 1/4 inches wide
at the top. They are in excellent clean useable condition. This
is truly a beautiful one of a kind piece of antique Turkish textile
