This antique Chinese children's silk appliqué pig wind hat dates from the 1950s. It is all hand stitched with colorful appliqué work. This unusual shaped hand crafted hat has a pigs face. Pigs are a symbol of wealth, and fertility. These Han Chinese children's hats were designed to provide protection from evil spirits, demons, and ghosts, but also to influence the wearing with important qualities such as wealth, health, courage, academic success, happiness, long life, grace, and beauty. This wind style winter hat has a blue silk brocade fabric back flap which covers the back of the neck for warmth, with black and white silk trim edging. It is fully lined in purple linen. The hat measures 19 inches inside circumference. It is in excellent wearable condition, and is truly an unique piece of antique Chinese textile art making for a wonderful display piece.
