Victorian Hand Painted Silk Mother of Pearl Fan & Box. |
This antique Victorian era hand painted silk mother of pearl fan and box dates from 1900. It is made of a sheer fine off white silk fabric, with a beautifully hand painted floral motif of blooming tea roses and thorny stemmed leaves. The painting is signed in the corner by the artist May Williams. There are magnificent mother of pearl sticks and guards, with a brass loop rivet attached on the bottom holding the fan together. This fabulous fan might have been used by a lady for a garden tea party or wedding. The lovely large fan measures 14 inches long and 34 inches wide when opened up and is in excellent useable condition, with only a small 1/2 inch split near the bottom center fold. Included with the fan is the original white satin box. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Victoriana art. $200 |
