Antique Chinese Forbidden Stitch Embroidery Clutch Purse. |
This antique Chinese forbidden stitch embroidery clutch purse dates from the 1920s. It is made of an off white silk fabric background, with hand done colorful peking knot forbidden blind seed stitch embroidery work and gold metallic thread couching work. There are embroidered pictorial designs of the Chinese Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune with bats. There is a beautifully carved bone clasp of a Chinese urn vase on the front, with snap closure underneath. Inside is lined in a coral pink silk damask fabric, which is also used as an outer border trim edging, with gold metallic braided rope trim accents. There is a matching embroidered coin purse inside, with mirror. This pretty clutch style purse measures 8 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches. It is in fair condition, with some wear along the top with loose gold threads from carrying and the carved front clasp is broken with a missing piece.
