This antique Chinese precious objects gold couching embroidered robe coat dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a black silk fabric, with gold metallic thread couching embroidery work, which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There are Chinese precious objects done in the gold couching work and colorful pastel silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of a pair of birds on the front and back. This magnificent Manchu style surcourt robe is loose fitting, a long full length, with a high mandarin collar, long full wide sleeves, side skirt vents and round carved brass buttons for closure down the front. It is fully lined in blue silk. The robe measures 47 inches long, with 54 inch hips, chest, waist and 30 inch sleeve cuff circumference. It is in good wearable condition, with some slight scratch marks tiny pin holes in the silk and frayed pulls along the shoulder (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
