This Victorian era antique signed Kashmir loom embroidered pieced border paisley shawl dates from the mid 19th century. It is made of a jacquard loomed woven wool done in strong dark vivid colors of green, red, gold, turquoise blue, black and white, with a small black wool star center. There is a colorful soft pashmina goats fleece wool hand stitched embroidered pieced patchwork style fringed border trim edging. This stunning shawl has wonderful workmanship and detail, with an Indian paisley design. It is signed with numbers in white thread stitching on the corner (see close-up). These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia and India. They were very popular during the mid to late 1800s with at least one being included in every better class trousseau. The shawl measures 68 by 68 inches and is in excellent condition, with no holes or repairs. This is an extraordinary piece of paisley textile art! $650 |
