This Victorian era antique Kashmir hand woven wool embroidered pieced paisley shawl dates from the early 19th century. It is made of a soft fine pashmina goats fleece wool, hand stitched and embroidered with colorful natural dyed wool done in strong vivid vibrant colors of red, orange and blue. This stunning shawl has exquisite workmanship and detail which is all hand embroidered and pieced together by hand in a patchwork of small pieces creating a paisley pine cone shaped tear drop motif known as the boteh and floral leaf designs. There is a small black wool star center and a decorative hand embroidered fringed border edging surrounding the shawl. These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia and India. They were very popular during the mid to late 19th century with at least one being included in every better class trousseau. This stunning square shawl measures 74 by 74 inches. It is in fair as-is condition, with several small holes, fraying along the border seam and the black wool center is ripped, frayed which needs mending or replacing (see close-ups).
