This antique Hungarian Matyo folk embroidery yellow floral fringe round tablecloth dates from the 1920s. It is hand stitched, made of golden yellow silk threads done in raised padded satin stitch Matyo embroidery work completely covering the entire black linen fabric underneath. There is a floral garland laurel leaf wreath ring design densely embroidered onto the fabric in a circular pattern and hand knotted macrame yellow silk fringe trim edging. The embroidery work is exquisitely done with wonderful workmanship. Hungary's tradition of folk embroidery dates back to the middle ages. Hungarian daughters learned to embroider at a very young age and a family's wealth was often measured or determined by the number of embroidered cloths they had. This lovely embroidered round tablecloth doily measures 110 inches in circumference, 36 inches wide and has additional 9 inch long fringe trim. It is in excellent condition. This is a truly a wonderful piece of Hungarian textile folk art!
