Chinese Blue Silk Embroidered RobeThis antique Chinese blue silk embroidered chenyi Manchu woman's robe dates from the Qing Dynasty. It is made of a light weight blue silk jacquard fabric. There is gold couching and colorful silk embroidered trim with flowers, butterflies, bats and the "wan" swastika design which means ten thousand and denotes plurality, prosperity, and long life. The butterflies and bats both represent summer, happiness and joy. There is a high mandarin style neck and front overlap to the right side held with loop and carved brass button toggles, making this a woman's chenyi style robe with short side vents. The robe is fully lined in blue silk and has a paper label inside. See bottom photo. The robe has large wide dramatic silk cuffs. This unique large size robe is all hand embroidered and hand stitched. It measures 42 inches long, with 66 inch hips, waist, chest and 42 inch wide sleeve cuffs. The robe is in excellent clean wearable condition with only very slight fade of the blue silk in small areas which is barely noticeable. There are no rips or repairs or fraying. This wonderful piece of wearable Chinese art could be worn or displayed. |
