This vintage figural silk embroidered piano shawl coat dates from the 1920s. It is made of a black silk background, with colorful raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There are a variety of figures, flowers, butterflies, pagodas and rickshaw carts embroidered throughout, including children at play flying kites and scholars. The embroidery work and detail figural designs are exceptional. This fabulous loose fitting boxy style jacket has long full sleeves, is custom made from an antique Canton Chinese piano shawl and has great detail and design. There is an embroidered large fold over lapel collar, plunging V front neckline, with embroidered silk button and loop closures on the front and is fully lined in black silk. The jacket measures 26 inches long, with a 38 inch waist, bust, 15 inch back and 21 inch long sleeves. It is in excellent wearable condition and is truly a rare and wonderful piece of wearable Chinese textile art. $250 |
